Part 1: Microbit Practice
Instructions (Part I): Click here and work individually and/or with your team, to complete at least 2 of the introductory Microbit tutorials shown below.
Instructions (Part II): Scroll past the initial tutorials to the “Games” section. Choose at least 2 different games to create and experiment with modifying their code to add your own creative twist.
Instructions (Part III): Now that you have a foundational understanding of how to create and upload code to your Microbit, let’s integrate a ServoMotor to build an “Inchworm.” For a clearer understanding of what we’re aiming for, carefully watch the video below!
Instructions (Part IV): Click here and follow the instructions for connecting your ServoMotor to your Microbit. Please note that you will NOT need to complete steps 1-7 as your cables have already been modified for you as shown in the image below. Insert the clip attached to the “GND” port on the Microbit to the darkest wire on the ServoMotor (black or brown), the “3V” port on the Microbit to the red wire on the ServoMotor, and the “0” port on the Microbit to the lightest wire on the ServoMotor (white or orange).
Instructions (Part V): Click here, scroll down, and follow the “Make. Code. Connect” instructions shown in the image below. Additionally, the code listed in the instructions above is for one “step” of the inchworm. Experiment with variations of the code below to create more than one step such as the one shown below.
Instructions (Part VI): Once your Inchworm is assembled and the ServoMotor is mounted, attach the battery shown below on the right instead of the battery indicated by the arrow on the right. This battery will ensure enough power to more your inchworm!
Instructions (Part VII): Spend time testing and modifying your Inchworm until it is operating the way you imagined. Once you are satisfied, challenge another inchworm to a race and upload a video of your race below. Type your first name in the “Subject” area. A QR code is provided for ease of upload
