Introduction to Drones

During this lesson, we will learn about what drones are and will take a look at the Tello drones you currently have. Next, we will learn how to be safe with drones. They are a lot of fun, but they can be unsafe if we aren’t careful. 

What is a Drone?

A drone is an unmanned aircraft that is more formally known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Unmanned means that there is not someone inside the drone when it is flying. A drone is a flying robot that can be controlled by a remote on the ground or by programming.

• Do not let your drone battery overheat. Stop and remove the battery if it becomes too hot. 
• Do not charge your drone overnight, they only need to charge for a few hours.
• Do not touch the drone’s propellers or motors while they are moving.
• Only fly the Tello EDU in areas that are clear of people and obstacles.
• Avoid flying the drone over or near people, buildings, vehicles, power lines, and other structures.
• Only fly your drone in good weather conditions — never fly it when it’s windy, raining, snowing, or foggy.
• Ideally, you should  fly the Tello drone indoors or in completely windless conditions if you are outside. 
• Don’t fly your drone unless your instructor says it is okay.
