Activity #4: Biomimicry Challenge

STEP 1: This week you’ve explored how pollution affects our land and how human activity leaves a lasting impact on the environment. Now it’s time to look for solutions. For this biomimicry challenge, you’ll use the AskNature website to explore how living things deal with waste, clean up toxins, or protect ecosystems from damage—and then use what you find to inspire a new idea or invention.

Start by thinking of a pollution-related problem you noticed this week. It could be something like trash buildup, soil contamination, loss of healthy land, or how human activity disrupts natural systems.

Go to the AskNature website and search for how plants, animals, or ecosystems solve similar problems. Once you find a strategy you like, use it to design something that could help people or the planet. If you need a reminder of what biomimicry is, feel free to revisit the videos from our first challenge in Unit 1. In your workbook, record:

  1. The problem you’re trying to solve
  2. What you found on AskNature
  3. Your idea for how it could be used in a real-world design

You can draw your idea, describe it, or include links or pictures. I’m excited to see what you come up with!
