EggCraft Landing

STEP 1: For our next activity, we’re focusing on landing—just like real spacecraft must do safely when returning to Earth. Watch the videos below to get inspired by how space agencies design landings, then get ready to design your own!

STEP 2:  Watch the video below to see one example of how a fragile item—like an egg—might be safely delivered using only simple materials. Your challenge is to design your own egg-drop device using only the materials provided. The goal is to protect your egg during a series of drops and land as close to the target as possible. The design in the video is just one idea—yours can look totally different. It will be up to you and your teacher to agree on a fair and consistent drop zone, and part of your job is to adapt your design to those real-world constraints.

STEP 3: Your challenge is to design and build your own egg-drop device using only the materials provided. The goal is to protect your egg and land as close to the target as possible. The video below shows one example, but your design can (and should) be completely your own—get creative! Once your device is ready, your teacher will help facilitate the drop competition. When it’s your turn, film your drop and upload the video using the QR code provided. Be sure to type your first name in the “Subject” line when you upload.
