Now we will dive into the website Thingiverse and make changes to designs from other people around the world.
What is Thingiverse?
“MakerBot’s Thingiverse is a thriving design community for discovering, making, and sharing 3D printable things. As the world’s largest 3D printing community, we believe that everyone should be encouraged to create and remix 3D things, no matter their technical expertise or previous experience. In the spirit of maintaining an open platform, all designs are encouraged to be licensed under a Creative Commons license, meaning that anyone can use or alter any design.” – Thingiverse
Getting Started
Search through Thingiverse and find a few different designs that you like. You can use the search bar at the top or view by different filters provided.
Once you find a design that you like you will download the file(s) by clicking on “Download All Files” and you will upload them onto TinkerCAD. Open a new project, click “Import” in the top right area, and upload all the .stl files from the download that you want to use. You can only upload .stl files, not anything else into TinkerCAD.
Now you can edit away! Have fun and share your design with your instructor before you decide to print.
