Part II: Marble Roller Coasters
Step 1. Build
- Watch the above video to learn how to set up your track.
- Follow the video’s example to secure one end of the foam track to a table, chair, or another elevated surface using masking tape.
- Shape the foam track into slopes and curves, taping it securely to hold it in place. Refer to the video for tips on creating smooth transitions.
- Place a marble at the top of the track and let it roll. Watch how it moves and adjust as needed.
- Shape a section of the foam into a loop and tape it securely to the track. Use the video for guidance on ensuring the marble can roll through the loop smoothly.
- Use tape to create a gap in the track and position a piece of foam as a landing ramp.
- Add more curves, slopes, or turns to make your roller coaster more exciting.
- Roll the marble through your entire track to check for any areas where it might fall off or get stuck. Adjust the track and tape as needed.
- Can you create a double loop? Can you make the marble jump through a hoop or land in a cup? How long can you make your track?
Step 2. Share
Record and upload a video of your marble successfully moving through your track. Type your first name(s) in the “Subject’ area. A QR code is provided for ease of upload.
