Part 3: 3d Model Drone Attachment
From Physical to Digital: Precision Modeling in Tinkercad
Great work on your prototypes! Now it’s time to move your design from the physical world to the digital one. As an engineer, you need to create precise models. Today, you will accurately measure your prototype and build a digital replica in Tinkercad.
The Challenge 📏
Your mission is to create an exact 1:1 digital version of your physical drone attachment prototype in Tinkercad.
Your goals are to:
Measure every dimension of your prototype with precision using Vernier calipers.
Recreate the prototype in Tinkercad, making sure all measurements are accurate.
Instructional Videos
These videos will show you the tools you need for this challenge.
How to Measure with Vernier Calipers: This tool allows you to take very precise measurements.
2. Using the Ruler Tool in Tinkercad: This feature helps you build perfectly sized models. Click here to watch the video (this video cannot be embedded, please click the link to watch directly on YouTube).
Activity Steps
Learn to Measure: Watch the video on how to use Vernier calipers. Practice taking a few measurements on your prototype until you feel comfortable.
Measure & Record: Carefully measure all parts of your drone attachment—length, width, height, and the thickness of the material. Draw a simple sketch of your prototype and write down the measurements for each part. Accuracy is key!
Learn the Ruler Tool: Watch the video on how to use the ruler tool in Tinkercad. This will be essential for building your digital model to the correct scale.
Build Your Digital Model:
Log in to Tinkercad and create a new design.
Place a ruler on your workplane.
Using the measurements you recorded, start building your attachment piece by piece.
Double-check that the dimensions in Tinkercad match the measurements from your physical prototype exactly.
