Activity #3: Balancing Chemical Reactions (Equations)

Materials:

Part 1: Many of the processes you’ve observed, such as the bubbles from Alka-Seltzer reacting with water, water electrolysis, and the upcoming oxidation of steel wool, involve chemical reactions that follow the “Law of Conservation of Mass.” This law states that all matter that enters a reaction must also exit. When writing chemical equations, we use a process called “balancing” to ensure they comply with this law. With this in mind, watch the video below and complete the summary in your workbook.

Part 2: Complete the balancing chemical reactions simulation found in your workbook.
