3D Design

Manufacturing products has never been easier with 3d printing. 3d printers can print complex structures that would take traditional manufacturing processes much longer. In this workshop, we’ll design and print items that solve design challenges. We’ll start with TinkerCAD. We’ll learn materials, printers, and software through hands-on projects. This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies, and STEM in one. Click "See more..." to explore a live 1-Week workshop example.

Artificial Intelligence

This workshop will dive into image and pattern recognition programs that are foundational to machine learning and artificial intelligence. More and more technology companies are looking to hire those with Machine Learning experience. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of machine learning and some programming experience is helpful. This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies and STEM in one. Click "See more..." to explore a live 1-Week workshop example.

Drone Programming

Drones are not only becoming a part of businesses and government but are also really fun! Using a STEM mindset, we’ll learn all about drones/quadcopters, how they work and are currently being used around the world. We’ll program real drones to complete a series of flight missions that will keep your students engaged. This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies, and STEM in one. Click "See more..." to explore a live 1-Week workshop example.

Free

Intro to Robotics

In this workshop you’ll learn the basic principles of robotics including sensors, and programming. We’ll use the Edison robot to explore foundational robotics skills in both computer science and mechanical engineering. Depending on your programming experience you’ll use block, or text programming to program the robot. This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies and STEM in one. Click "See more..." to explore a live 1-Week workshop example.

Engineering Design

Engineering Design Challenges are a great way practice the STEM mindset. Students will go through a cyclical process to “Imagine, Prototype, and Share” their work during various design challenges. Challenges include, building an earthquake-proof structure, creating a water filter, designing a game controller, and determining the optimal ratio of chemicals needed to fuel a rocket. You pick the most relevant challenges for your students. Click "See more..." to explore a live 1-Week workshop example.

Assistive Technology

Applying one's knowledge to serve those in need is the true purpose of engineering. This workshop will dive into the world of circuits, electronics, and programming. Using the Scratch programming interface and the MakeyMakey/Arduino microprocessor, students will build a video game and game controller for a paralyzed individual. This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies and STEM in one. Click "See more..." to explore a live 1-Week workshop example.

Game Design

Learn how to design and program games. We’ll use principles from Andy Schell’s book The Art of Game Design, MakeCode, BrainPad, and the Scratch programming interface to design our graes. In this workshop, you’ll make games, receive feedback, and iterate your builds. The goal is for each student to publish their game on itch.io an independent game site. This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies, and STEM in one. For more information contact chris@wovenlearning.org.

Computer Science

Build and program your own computer! After students assemble the computer using only blueprints, they start the computer and learn to program it within Minecraft. The Raspberry Pi computer runs Minecraft and other education programs and is a great way to tap into self-directed learning. This workshop works great with programs that have limited internet connectivity. This is a perfect workshop for students that love Minecraft and tinkering. App Design

We’ll use the MIT App Inventor to design and build apps. Before we can build an app we’ll go through the Design Thinking process to come up with ideas for apps to build. We’ll use the MIT App Inventor to design as our engineering interface. We’ll try our hand at the Coronavirus app challenge and other projects driven by student curiosity. Such projects like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies and STEM in one. For more information contact chris@wovenlearning.org.

Website Creation

Although learning HTML to build a site is rewarding, we’ll use what most modern companies build their sites with WordPress. Using WordPress we’ll learn and use plugins to build a site that can be a portfolio, online business, or blog. Websites take time. We’ll start by hand drawing our website plans then find the digital resources to utilize. This project, like all of our projects, connects relevant career fields, university studies and STEM in one. For more information contact chris@wovenlearning.org.

Advanced Robotics

During this workshop students will build and program an Arduino robot. This workshop requires programming knowledge and it’s recommended that students have taken a previous programming workshop, such as Introduction to Robotics, before this course. If you’re an autodidact then go for it! We’ll support you! This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies and STEM in one. For more information contact chris@wovenlearning.org.

Internet of Things

Our lights, tv, thermostat and a myriad of other things are controlled by the internet. During this workshop students will learn and build IoT Arduino based projects to learn and explore the exciting field of products. This workshop will start with learning to program and build an internet controlled light switch. Lots of fun projects that we can build. This project, like all of our projects, connects possible career fields, university studies and STEM in one. For more information contact chris@wovenlearning.org.
