Smart Port Challenge and Showcase

Career Spotlight: Robotics and Automation Engineer

Robotics and automation engineers design and improve systems that help machines move, communicate, and solve problems.

Today’s Mission

Use movement and communication to complete a Smart Port robot challenge.

Success Today

By the end of class, your team should be able to:

  • complete the challenge
  • improve your robot at least once
  • explain what your robot does

Main Challenge

Complete the Smart Port Mission

Your team will:

  • move through a path or work area
  • use at least one message or signal
  • test and improve your system

Steps

  1. Get your robot and code ready.
  2. Test movement and radio.
  3. Try the Smart Port Challenge.
  4. Notice what needs fixing.
  5. Make one improvement.
  6. Test again.
  7. Get ready to present.

Smart Port Mission Ideas

Your teacher may choose one challenge or combine a few:

  • move cargo through a marked path
  • stop at the correct location
  • send a “cargo ready” or “task complete” signal
  • respond to a “go” or “stop” message
  • navigate around a blocked route

Level Up

If your team is ready, try:

  • adding a second message
  • improving speed or accuracy
  • making your system smoother
  • explaining how this could help at a port

Closing Presentation

Be ready to quickly share:

  • What worked well with your robot design or code?
  • What was the hardest part to troubleshoot?
  • What would you want to do next with your robot?

Sentence Starters

  • What worked well was…
  • The hardest part to troubleshoot was…
  • Next, we would like to…

Clean Up

Before you leave:

  • return your kit
  • make sure parts are back in the bag
  • unplug batteries
  • leave your space clean

Wrap Up

Today you worked like a robotics team by building, testing, communicating, and improving a smart system.
